Geoff Salt (Director of Selling - Waitrose) re Barbican
The following was authored by Geoff Salt (Director of Selling - Waitrose)
"Barbican joined the Waitrose trading fold this morning and looked great, each acquisition brings its different challenges and at Barbican you all had plenty of them including noise restrictions, absences of parking and merchandising marque and subsequent changes to the FRV bulkhead and replacement coldrooms. The end result though is a thoroughly and superbly transformed new look both on and off the shop floor, the merchandising layout was itself a challenge but the reality looks well to work for us and the potentially difficult non food back wall should be a suitable attraction.
As I left Des and I were surprised but pleased that our first mornings customers were shopping the whole shopfloor and of course their reaction to our opening varied only by the degree of delight.
Barbican will no doubt develop considerably with regeneration over the coming months and years and it will be a splendid popular and profitable addition to our inner London store port folio. On behalf of Steven and myself thank you for the considerable part you and your trams personally played in getting us up and running at the Barbican. Please do also pass on our appreciation and congratulations to your teams and contractors."
