John Lewis Bluewater is undergoing major upgrade and refurbishment works, in this, it’s tenth anniversary year.
Guardian ECL have been chosen as the contractor for the electrical works, working with the Principle Contractor, Wates. The main bulk of the work is being implemented on the 72,000 sq ft basement level, with additional works on the upper floors.


Guardian Project Engineer, David Hogan is heading the Guardian efforts on site, in accompaniment with 3 full-time office staff, 2 Site Foremen, 2 Chargehands, and at present, 16 Site Operatives, to cover the day and nights shifts.
After completing Enabling Works at the end of 2008/beginning of 2009, the main project began in March. The basement selling area, including a new Food Hall is scheduled for completion and opening in early August 2009. The upper floors are scheduled for completion soon after, in September 2009.
David Hogan, Guardian Project Manager, explains the progress of works:
“Having now completed 2 No. phases of enabling works, i.e Basement Warehouse areas, we are now approximately 50% installed within the new Basement Selling Area and Food Hall.
In regards to the upper floor works on Ground, 1st and 2nd floors, we have successfully completed and handed over 10 No. phase of works (out of 45, in total), including new Events Rooms on the 2nd floor, and new Beauty Rooms on the 1st floor.
We are currently heading into the most demanding period of the construction phase, with approximately 8 No. phases/workfaces on the upper floors as well as the major construction works within the Basement, all in progress simultaneously.”
