The building in which the new Virgin Active is now housed was an empty shell, and is attached to the south stand of Twickenham Rugby Stadium. It is part of a complex that holds a Marriot hotel, ticket offices and RFU souvenir outlets. It was acquired by Virgin Active who have refurbished the building and turned it into a gymnasium and fitness centre, set out over its three floors.

Ground Floor Level 1

  • Spa Pool
  • Swimming Pool
  • Sauna
  • Steam Room
  • Reception
  • Children’s Areas

 1st Floor Level 2

  • Male and Female Changing Rooms and Showers
  • Bar Area
  • BOH Offices
  • Workshops

2nd Floor Level 3

  • Large Gymnasium Area
  • 2 Studios
  • V Cycle Studio
  • Comms Room

Ground to Level 3

  • There is a climbing wall that runs from ground floor to level 3

The working period was 5 days each week with occasional weekends. Guardian installed a new Mains Panel in the 5th floor RFU plant room, which in turn fed distribution outlets for power, lighting and emergency lighting on every floor of the VA complex. General lighting is controlled via the reception desk with motorised MCB’s within lighting distribution boards.

Systems installed

  • Fire Alarm (This was installed for GECL by Clymac)
  • Front of House General Lighting & Power
  • Front of House Emergency Lighting
  • Back of House General Lighting & Power
  • Back of House Emergency Lighting
  • Containment for all Virgin Direct contractors
  • LED lighting was used in several areas and the results are very impressive.
  • All lighting was supplied by Luxo
  • Electrical undertile heating that extends on the “wet” stairs between the pool (level 1) and changing rooms (level 2)
  • The lighting installation on Level 3 is interesting as it adopts the style of an industrial look with lighting installed on rafts and in tray.

The job ran smoothly and the feedback received from ISG and Virgin has been very positive.
