Waitrose Islington
Project Manager: Jim Woodfield
Site Foreman: Lee Sellwood
Main Contractor: RG Group
Consultant: Synergy
Value: £731 K
Start Date: 16th February 2009
Relaunch Date: 2nd April 2009
The store was previously trading as a Woolworths prior to its acquisition by Waitrose. Guardian stripped out all existing electrical services prior to commencement of works, and then proceeded to install all of the site temporary electrics for RG Group, the project builders.
The Guardian remit was for the full electrical package which included installing 2 No. 150kva generators, which will run the branch in tandem with the existing electrical supply until the EDF mains upgrade is available. The generators (supplied by Stuart Power) had to be craned through the roof into the building (see photo).

The working period was 7 days each week, this was necessary in order to fulfil the contract by its completion date. Guardian installed a new Mains Panel on the 1st floor which incorporated all of the distribution boards and switches to run the store. We also installed a new H&V Panel on the first floor, adjacent to the new Mains Panel.
Systems installed
- Fire Alarm
- CCTV
- Intruder Alarm
- Branch Management System (BMS)

- New Comms Room and Epos Data System, including 2 No. UPS's & Cat 6 Telephones
- Front of House Lighting, installed to Waitrose MK V specification
- Service Departments
- Office lighting, controlled by PIR sensors to reduce energy costs.

The job was difficult due to no on-site deliveries, and a consolidation centre was used where all trades deliveries are bought to site on one lorry by Fit Out UK.
The job ran smoothly and it has been said by some that this has been one of the best acquisitions to date.
Waitrose Islington was opened on schedule, on Thursday, 2nd April 2009.
