The basement area at the Wellcome Trust was previously utilised as a book store/archive area, and Guardian were contracted to turn the area into a staff gymnasium.

The Guardian remit was for the full construction package, including all building works, fixtures and fittings, and all services, including electrical installation and heating & ventilation (mechanical) works.

Construction and building works included the reduction in size of the existing bookstore to accommodate the gymnasium. This involved the construction of new partition walls, door and fixtures, to the design brief, including:

  • Main Gym Area
  • Treatment Room
  • Classroom
  • Reception Area
  • Equipment Store

New lighting and power was installed throughout the gym, including a new, upgraded electrical distribution board. Guardian also installed a new high level trunking system to accommodate the distribution of these services.

The mechanical installation of heating and ventilation services included installation of all new A.C. units and associated ductwork.

Guardian ECL managed the whole installation & building works to the high standards expected by the client.

Other services installed under the contract:

  • Door Access System
  • Fire Alarm System
  • Audio (radio) & (integrated) P.A. system
  • Complete re-design of the sprinkler system

The Wellcome Trust staff gymnasium was opened on schedule, on Monday 12th January, 2009.
